Ava reached its peak in mid-15th century, but Sangha gradually suffocated the economy. Dynastic wars enabled by the feudal political struggle allowed for a Shan (a branch of Thai) warlord to install his dynasty in power from 1527-1551. Ava's dynasty retook power in 1553.
