We used radio telemetry to locate and track plush frogs. We mimicked the work of scientists at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park who are using the same techniques to breed and reintroduce the Mountain Yellow-Legged Frog in SoCal. TY SDZoo for this amazing opportunity! #spatialecology

Great podcast on giving effective feedback to teachers. It is important to focus on the “one thing” that will result in improved practice. Inviting teachers into the conversation around this “one thing” helps build buy in. #leadership #education podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sch…

Students use x-rays to make sense of the skeletal system. Qs like "Is this person healthy?" encourage close observations and critical thinking.

Instead of giving long lists of resources to teachers and staff, curate one or two that most specifically meets their needs. #education #edleadership. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sch…

My favorite new podcast. Great conversations with distinguished people at the head of their field. There are many lessons from these leaders that can be applied to education. #education #leadership podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the…

Interesting video on the pitfalls of our overly safe playgrounds that shield kids from taking controlled risks. Why safe playgrounds aren't great for kids youtu.be/lztEnBFN5zU via YouTube

You might have heard that instructional coaching is one of the most powerful forms of PD for teachers. But what exactly is it? Here's my perspective on the fundamentals. ↓ (with some bonus dodgy drawings)

Anxiety feels bad, but it isn’t an emotional malfunction—it evolved to help us foresee problems and prepare to overcome them. What matters is how we respond to it. wsj.com/articles/in-pr…

The Question: Just how much is 22 weeks of lost learning? The answer is not good news. teachlikeachampion.com/blog/q-just-ho…

Implication would be that teachers (& coaches) routinely overestimate how much students understand & students also overestimate their own comprehension. Thus merely asking them if they understand is a poor teaching strategy.

Great article for how to incentivize reluctant readers this summer. Catering to their interests, incorporating novelty, and daily routines are all helpful. wsj.com/articles/seven…

One of the better podcasts I have heard recently. Laurie explores the science of how we can maximize happiness. Being present, connecting with others, acts of service, and engaging in rituals can create long term happiness. TLDR: get off your phone. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the…

Great post by Andrew Watson on learning objectives & pre-lesson retrieval practice. I like him was skeptical of the former. learningandthebrain.com/blog/making-le…

Andrew Watson Also bonus points for this pithy quote on retrieval practice from Ayaan Khan & Patrice Bain: “Don’t ask students to put information into their brains (by, say, rereading). Instead, ask students to pull information out of their brains (by trying to remember).”

Great podcast on how to address and respond to challenging situations that all leaders face. One takeaway was on how to respond to a subordinate’s mistake with grace, understanding, and an opportunity for growth. #leadership podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the…

Great podcast about what to focus on to improve student achievement. A sequenced curriculum, explicit content instruction, and many opportunities to read grade level texts and explain their thinking in writing. #education podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/pri…
