Today at the SEATRU.UMT This Green turtle mama came to nest and got caught up in some ropes. Found her in the morning and disentangled her. There she goes... Hopefully she comes back for more nesting as they can nest upto 8 times in one season.

Hio ni story tumepewa since tuko wadogo. Ati a cat drinks milk. Most are actually lactose intolerant and get osmotic diarrhoea due to the milk.

Dr FK Mbai (@fkmbai) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Actually, both cow & goat milk tend to have lower fat and higher lactose content as compared to cat milk. Just that goat milk has a relatively lower lactose content compared to cow milk. But only about 0.8-1% diff. I guess that's why we prefer it but it causes the same issues.

Both of them cause retarded growth & digestive issues too. The high lactose levels in cow/goat milk increase its osmolality which causes slower stomach emptying (& possible vomiting). Also water absorption into the digestive tract and thus the diarrhoea I mentioned earlier.

Yesterday this fellow wandered into Blue Lodge in Majengo, Malindi. Someone had started a rumour that a man had walked in there and turned into a baboon, hence the crowds. With KWS Malindi, we managed to capture, anaesthetise and move the baboon to Arabuko Sokoke Forest. Dr FK Mbai

Chengo at Mici Randagi Watamu, before and after treatment. Came in with a necrotic tail, Dr FK Mbai fixed it and she went back to her home after a few weeks. This is part of the work MRW does. Helping animals from low income households ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿฟ

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ช Meet Vita (Life) She was found in Timboni lying in the sun helpless. She has been under care for a while and we also got to sterilise her when she recovered. She is definitely happy with her new life๐Ÿ˜

One of our goals is bridging the marine health gap in the Coast of Kenya and the Western Indian Ocean at large. We aim to achieve this through collaborations and partnerships. Dr FK Mbai recently participated in the first stakeholders meeting at the Wildlife Research & Training Institute new Malindi centre.

Always a joy to find cats that went under the TNR programme by Mici Randagi Watamu. This cat was neutered, returned and went on to adopt the team at Kachawe Beach Restaurant and he is clearly having the time of his life๐Ÿ˜ป

Most baby sea turtles donโ€™t make itโ€”but โ€œ1 in 1,000โ€ is just a rough estimate. New research suggests survival is closer to 1 in 400โ€“2,000, varying by environment, reproduction, and human impact. Bottom line: it depends more than we thought.
