First ever Strong Towns Natl gathering kicked off tonight - the eve of Congress for the New Urbanism’s conference - in City of Charlotte. What started as a blog is now a large and growing movement. Charles Marohn thanked #CNU “the special forces of urbanism” for helping make this event possible.

One of the most simple and powerful city-building projects your city could do would be to transform its street intersections to prioritize people and life over cars and speed. We know how. It just takes will. Graphic via the always clever Lior Steinberg.

Very cool speed index out today from StreetLight There are huge differences in how often people drive at #SaferSpeeds by city Any #VisionZero effort that doesn't prioritize #SafetyOverSpeed misses one of the most important reasons that people die on US roads

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that pediatricians: "Support legislation to reduce speed limits in urban areas, including area-wide 20 mph zones, and to permit photo speed limit enforcement in critical areas" More partners in the continued fight for #SammysLaw Families For Safe Streets

New US Department of Energy study: Compared to an SUV, e-cargo bikes offer 95% cost savings and a 99% reduction in CO₂ equivalent per mile. I'd say that's pretty good! nrel.gov/news/program/2…

Lots to unpack in this episode. 2nd time in 10 yrs “hidden side of everything” hosts discuss lack of road safety for US pedestrians. Wish they’d tapped Charles Marohn, Confessions of a Recovering Traffic Engineer Jeff Speck Walkable City. Excellent #UpZone op Strong Towns.
