Eric Pickles (now a Lord) was the minister in charge of fire safety before the Grenfell fire. When he appeared in front of the Grenfell inquiry he told them not to waste his time.

In 2017 I said Grenfell was social murder & was attacked by politicians from all sides & the media. Today’s report tragically confirms how right I was but more importantly demands immediate action to secure justice & to protect people at risk. theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/j…

'There were lots of empty seats....I was really quite shocked' Robert Peston says he was surprised by how many MPs left the Commons before the prime minister's statement on the Grenfell Inquiry report.

'Had this been a private development on Bayswater Road... I'm sure they'd have been put in the Savoy or the Hilton within a few hours of the fire.' Jeremy Corbyn says the Grenfell disaster was 'contempt for the poorest, most vulnerable people' in London.

Today’s Equity demo has been about confusion as much as cuts. Constant u-turns is not the stability our members need. V pleased to see Angus Robertson take it seriously, & meet Scotland’s 4 culture unions immediately. Hoping it heralds a material shift in approach.

Blair is speaking, as he increasingly does, irresponsibly & without understanding. Grenfell was not the result of 'mistakes', but fraud by manufacturers, complicity by testing bodies, dereliction of safety duty by architects & construction companies, and inaction by politicians.

Paul W Fleming (@paulwfleming) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This so daft. Resilience to what?! The cuts the Welsh Government has imposed?! We have publicly funded art for public good- economic, social, & moral good. It’s impossible to have resilience to bad political choices. Equity members at WNO & beyond will resist these cuts.

Paul W Fleming (@paulwfleming) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This article is a disgrace. No local voices want to sell Brum’s cultural assets. The Commissioners don’t. *No* major parties do. A shadowy, foreign funded think tank however... @BBCMTD spent licence fee money on an FOI, to advance an agenda who would destroy them. Pathetic.

Paul W Fleming (@paulwfleming) 's Twitter Profile Photo

What’s bonkers is that Blair’s theory of progressive leadership is correct, but it’s never what he’s done. He straightjacketed his first ministry through focus groups, his later ministries enacted policies which made things worse for people, & now he’s a reactionary. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Andy Street (@andy4wm) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Any suggestion that Birmingham's art should be sold to help the city council balance its books is for the birds. Arts & Culture is the lifeblood of Brum and the wider West Midlands. The sector needs protecting and growing, not sabotaging.
