No African farmer left behind: Seed Systems Group and FIPS-Africa welcomed 15 agriculturalists from Madagascar, Togo, and Senegal to Kenya for a 14-day training in farmer outreach using the Village Based Advisor/Small Pack methodology. Onward!

Very encouraging to see so many #farmers in #Makueni #Kenya continuing to rear improved #chicken breeds despite drought & high cost of feeds. Great way to enhance #resilience #nutrition and adaptation to #climatechange #womeninag #geneticgains

I’ve been extremely impressed by Togo’s crop breeders Drs Tchala Noudifoule (maize), Menssan Dewa (rice), and Eyanawa Akata (sorghum) while visiting breeding research this week! New varieties reaching farmers soon!

Fantastic to visit this #farmer in #Kirinyaga #Kenya to learn how he has improved #soilhealth and increased his #coffee crop productivity through the use of a low-cost organic soil conditioner #regenerativefarming #savesoil #producemorewithless #sustainablecoffee

A good way to respond to high #fertilizer prices #foodinsecurity & #climatechange is to promote growing of #sweetpotato which is well adapted to poor #soil fertility. A #farmer from #Kakamega #Kenya shows a tuber from an improved variety. Great work by FIPS-Africa & KALRO

Great to visit this #farmer in #Makueni #Kenya to learn how she grows #greengrams using a ripper & application of manure & a soil conditioner in the rip lines. Variety is Biashara from KALRO. Good example of #soilmanagement & #climatechange adaptation #SaveSoilMovement

Great to visit #farmers in #Makueni #Kenya to learn how they are improving establishment & early growth of their Melia #tree seedlings using a natural low cost #soilconditioner applied together with manure - despite limited rainfall. Good example of adaptation to #climatechange

If farmers are to successfully adapt to #climatechange they need to change their #soil & crop management practices. This #villagebasedadvisor (VBA) showed us how she escaped drought by planting an early-maturing variety in basins. Great work by FIPS-Africa's VBAs in #Kwale #Kenya

Interesting image from semi-arid #Makueni County which clearly shows that #greengrams farmers can't rely on rainfall alone but need to invest in #soilmanagement. Good work by FIPS-Africa's #villagebasedadvisors to assist farmers to improve #foodsecurity & adapt to #climatechange

The Togo team has been working hard all season to produce a bountiful maize crop & they have persevered and delivered. We are also grateful to the government extension in Togo which has played a key role in helping farmers improve their yields. #EveryFarmerDeservesGoodSeed

Last week we visited FIPS Africa ‘s seedling unit where our 2 PCN-resistant potato lines are being multiplied via stem cuttings & shared with youth groups in Njoro, Kenya. With strong partnerships, these promising lines are well on their way to reaching farmers soon!
