I saw my first Swallow yesterday. Zooming across the grass at Navio fort near Brough in the Peak District. Gave me quite a lift. No time for a photo.

I'm from a council estate, a nice house, garden, places to play, people had good jobs, good schools, and libraries. No sense of entitlement, but a sense of belonging, of worth. Kids, families need that again.

It is looking beautiful around Ughill now. Dandelions and buttercups are plentiful, walls being repaired, grass lushly green, trees beginning to come in leaf. We saw a few Lapwings and Crow but no sadly no Curlew.

It looks like OS Leisure Ordnance Survey is back up and running. Bit of a worry that it should disappear like that for everyone, and not a word from OS. If you'd have been out in the wilds relying on it you'd be a bit stuffed.

Very saddened to read Bernard Hill has died. His portrayal of Yosser Hughes in Boys from the Black Stuff was the first time I saw that people were taking notice to what Thatcher was doing to a whole section of society. A performance that has never left my mind.

'Labour sources defended the changes and said “zero hours” had been difficult to define in law.' Really. Seems pretty simple to me.
