2016 was the year Western elites realized freedom of speech was working against them, as more and more citizens were voting the "wrong" way. They convinced themselves free speech was dangerous and their role was to "save democracy through censorship".

The Economist is right. Europe really does have a problem with free speech. Just ask Päivi Räsänen. The sitting politician faces criminal trial at the Finnish Supreme Court - all because a Bible verse Tweet she posted in 2019.

And to think that under the DSA, this unelected, powerful, unaccountable body has been given has been given a blank cheque to censor the speech of millions of Europeans.
