I hoped we were done with government mandates in our response to COVID, but the current rate of spread and hospitalization is not sustainable, for our hospitals, our schools, our public safety agencies, or our businesses. Masks slow the spread, and it’s time to put them back on.

The county's mask mandate is no longer in effect. The county council voted on two bills related to the mandate. Each bill had a 4-3 vote in support but needed five votes because they were considered emergency measures.

(1/2) Anne Arundel County's health officer, Dr. Nilesh Kalyanaraman, issued a public safety order to reinstate the mask mandate. County attorney Greg Swain explained:

(2/2) "The Order for Public Safety issued today by Dr. Nilesh Kalyanaraman, the county health officer, is issued pursuant to the authority granted to the county health officer by the Health- General article of the state code and the code of Maryland regulations."

The Mountain Road Library is closing at 2 pm today, Monday, January 10, for building maintenance. All other library locations are open until 9 pm.
