Senator Elaine McCoy dead at 74. McCoy, a lawyer and former Alberta cabinet minister, was appointed in 2005. She was the last Senator to sit as a Progressive Conservative before becoming an independent. She was known for championing human rights and environmental causes.

Speaker Rota just resigned. He expressed regret again for what happened and said the business of the House is above anyone, so he must step down. Resignation takes effect at the end of tomorrow’s sitting day, after which there will be a vote for a new Speaker.
