1/ In 2022 the cost-of-living crisis went from bad to worse. CitizensAdvice helped record numbers of people who needed a food bank referral or emergency charitable support - with 76% needing this help for the first time. 🧵

We agree CitizensAdvice! And that's not all that should change. - Over half of accidental subscriptions sign ups start with a free trial - £500m was spent on subs which renewed w/o people realising. You should be asked before moving from trial to a paid version - or to renew.

Completely agree — and that's exactly what we're calling for CitizensAdvice. This is particularly worrying when 1 in 4 people signed up to a subscription by accident. They're easy to slip into but difficult to get out of. Read our full report here ➡️ bit.ly/3ZU11gc

We CitizensAdvice welcome that Ofcom are looking into this but the pace needs to be much faster to help consumers now before they're hit by a £2.2bn hike in bills. I've put together some thoughts on this, including our recent research findings⤵️ wearecitizensadvice.org.uk/ofcom-needs-to… 🧵

🚨One year ago CitizensAdvice published research which found that people of colour pay £250 more p/a for their car insurance than white people. Today we’ve published new research which found that the situation disappointingly *still* remains the same. rb.gy/fwgw🧵

1/ What happens when paying back debt is just too big a mountain to climb? There are options that help people write off debt and get a fresh start - but only if they can pay upfront application fees. This doesn’t make sense - and it isn’t working. 🧵

The cost-of-living crisis is far from over. Between Jan-Apr 2023 CitizensAdvice has helped a record number of people with referrals for food banks or emergency charitable grants. That's on top of nearly 70 other records in our bleakest-ever start to the year. 🧵
