As part of the SHIFT project we focused on the analysis of self-driving vehicle fleet deployments in cities - our tools were used to develop control algorithms that managed vehicle dispatching, improved passenger throughput and reduced energy usage and waiting times!

PSA for #optimization students: The term "approximation algorithm" is not synonymous with "heuristic." An AA is a polynomial-time heuristic with a provable worst-case optimality guarantee. Unless you are working specifically on AAs, you probably always mean "heuristic."
