Next up was an incredible welcome from RI Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul Suttell at the Licht Judicial Complex. He lead a conversation on the importance of the Constitution in our democracy and RI’s legal system.

Students are getting a feel for government in action by participating in a mock legislative session regarding RI’s proposed Assault Weapons Ban. Students heard firsthand testimony from Jason Knight & Minority Leader Rep Mike Chippendale to get a bipartisan perspective on the legislation.

What a great debate! Perspectives from across the political spectrum were shared in an exciting debate.

The RI General Assembly has a dynamic team of bipartisan leaders at the helm responsible for the management of the RI House of Representatives and RI State Senate. Students were able to ask them questions about how the General Assembly functions and their unique leadership roles.

After three incredible days, the inaugural RI Civic Leadership Summit has come to a close. Students had the opportunity to meet elected and appointed officials, experience a legislative simulation, learn about Rhode Island history, collaborate with their peers, and so much more.

When I saw some of the students asking the speakers to autograph their Pocket Constitutions, I knew this team really brought Gregg Amore’s vision to life. A million thank yous to all who made this Summit a huge success.
