I never understood why some people choose medicine even though they hate it? From the time I was a student, I’ve always come across people (students and docs alike) who literally loath coming into work.

New NEJM article: interns who work 90 hr week were 3x more depressed than those working 40-45 hrs per week. Study of >15,000 interns taken at points before intern year, and q3 months during intern year from 2009-2020. Mental health declines in residency. nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…

On National Women’s Physicians Day, let’s steer the conversation to how we can make medicine/surgery more feasible for birthing people by creating comprehensive and fair maternity leave policies that support our workforce. There’s no way we can change the landscape without it

Being awake for 24 hours is the equivalent of having a blood alcohol content of 0.10%. This is higher than the legal limit for driving. If doctors aren’t fit to use their driver's license after 24 hours awake, should they be asked to use their medical license?

Paying your way through medical school is truly death by a thousand cuts. Nickel and dimed at every turn (except its $300). "Certifying this list will result in additional fees of $300. If you click Confirm, all rank order list fees must be paid and are not refundable."

I went into medicine because I didn’t see many other physicians who looked like me. Also to be in a field where I’m constantly learning and striving to be better. As an EM physician, I’m stoked to serve communities on the frontlines! #VDXxMedGradWishList amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls…

If you're in a season of studying right now, keep repeating this to yourself: I'll work hard. I'll do my best. But this exam doesn't get to steal my joy.

Things I needed to hear before Match Week: 1. You are more than a match result. 2. Your worth goes far beyond where an algorithm sorts you. 3. No matter the result, you’re still a worthy human being. 4. No matter what, take this moment to celebrate how far you’ve come.

Match Week begins in 14 hours and I’m feeling all the things. Excited, nervous, hopeful and most of all at peace knowing that I’ve done the work and now just have to let the rest unfold #EMbound #Match2023

I actually kinda worry about the soap ppl. EM is brutal w/ high burn/depression rates for those who wanted to match the specialty. Post-Covid with 1/6 spots filled by those who didn’t initially desire it I fear will lead to skyrocketing burnout/depression and attrition.

Tomorrow’s the day! Only 24 hours until I find out where I’m moving and more importantly who my co-residents will be 🤭 #Match2023

To my residency program, I hope you were stoked to see my name today. I’ve wanted to be #EMbound for almost a decade. I have a lot to learn, and admittedly I’m pretty nervous… but I’m ready. And I can’t wait to learn from you. Cheers, Your future PGY-1 #Match2023

Officially halfway through maternity leave (6wks). How do women return to work at this point or even earlier??? My body is still healing. Showers are rare, meals eaten cold, sleep not happening. What we do to postpartum women in the US is insane & inhumane.
