#OTD 2021 against the clock with the trench naturally filling with water around the #rutlandichthyosaur spent the day separating its head from the body.Satisfyingly record every piece systematically in order to reassemble the largest #ichthyosaur skeleton ever found in the UK⚒️

Three years ago this week, we were wrapping up the excavation of the ‘Rutland Sea Dragon’, AKA the 10-metre-long ichthyosaur found by Joe Davis at the Rutland Water Nature Reserve. The two photos were taken a year apart (2021-2022).

That slow stealth 40 second walk, really gives you a sense of size with this incredible discovery. I wonder how many times we walked that path over 3 weeks 🤯 getting your steps in for #fossilfriday
