Christians should not judge a candidate by what religion they claim to represent. Christians should judge a candidate by how their words and actions align with the commands to love our neighbors, to seek justice, to correct oppression, to defend the cause of those in need.

“And we shall call it the fall family festival.” Will kids wear costumes and get candy? “Yes.” So isn’t that the same thing as celebrating Halloween? “No, because Halloween is the devil’s holiday. This is a fall family festival.”

Vote. Vote for your neighbor. Vote for the stranger. Vote for the immigrant. Vote for the orphan. Vote for the widow. Vote for the poor. Vote for the oppressed. Vote for the marginalized. Vote for the least of these. Vote for justice and then pray that it may be so.

We grieve. We lament. We give ourselves time to sit in this heartbreak. But we also prepare. Christianity will be one of the primary weapons used to usher in this far-right agenda. We must be prepared to resist the co-opting of Jesus. We must be organized to fight back.
