Did you know each Nation has a different headdress? They each feature specific characteristics that make them unique.. This headdress was specifically worn by the Mohawks and has three eagle feathers on top to differentiate it from the others.

We love sharing facts about our Longhouse with everyone! #DYK that many Longhouses housed up to 20 families? They were built to serve as a home for a large, extended family. This would mean you would live with your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins etc.

There are distinct features on this Onondaga headdress: ✅ Made of strips of wood ✅ Adorned with eagle, hawk, pheasant, or turkey feathers ✅ A man wearing his gasdó•wä•’ with one feather pointing upward and another pointing downwards indicates he is Onondaga #SixNations

When looking at the design of the Longhouse, you can see that the bottom bunks were used for sleeping, while the upper bunks were used as storage - this is where people would typically store all of their belongings and food supplies. #SixNations #SixNationsHistory #Longhouse

#DYK during the cold winter months (like we have been experiencing this year!), the families of the Longhouse would spend most of their days gathering inside? While staying warm by the fire, they would prepare themselves for spring by repairing tools and clothing.
