Our first female athlete of the year finalist is Orion's Sarah Jacobsen (Sarah Jacobsen). The Illinois State volleyball signee and captain of the All-Western Illinois team is the school's career kills leader (1,330) and sparked the Chargers to a 37-win season.

Orion has named one of its own to succeed the retired Jack Wheeler as head volleyball coach, with Sydney Adams stepping up as his successor

She also served as a volunteer assistant from 2011-13 while continuing to play volleyball at Black Hawk College; Adams went on to graduate from Western Illinois
