The music industry and the music business are two different things. Plenty of artists thrive without a label. But if you don't understand royalties and rights, nothing else matters.

Music is about human connection. The connection between the artist and the listener. The connection between fans of the same artist. A connection made between random strangers soundtracked by the same song. AI can generate songs. It can’t generate that bond.

MUSIC INDUSTRY PRO TIP – Nobody owes you a response. Nobody owes you an opportunity. Nobody owes you a shot. That sounds harsh but it's actually really freeing. Once you stop expecting and start creating your own motion, everything changes.

Anybody can be a publicist or booking agent when the artist is already smoking hot, when people are already informed and demand is there. But were you pitching when nobody gave a fuck? That’s the real work. And I love the teams who’s down for the real ride.

Artists: Don’t sign a record deal without a release commitment clause. This forces the label to release your album within a specific period of time after you turn it in. Without the clause, they can shelve the album forever. But with it, you’ll have the option to exit the deal.

If you complain more than you share your music on social media, don't be surprised when nobody engages with the music. Your posts are your brand. Don't build a brand around complaints.

Artists are too over exposed, artists are too accessible. It’s no mystique anymore. That’s why when someone like Jayz speaks we listen cause he doesn’t speak too often, or we don’t see him everywhere.

My advice to every artist is finish your album before you start to roll it out. Mix, master and vinyl if applicable. Give your fans the best experience you can with the resources that you can control. And most importantly, give yourself enough time to plan.
