I’ve worked with hundreds of coaches over the years. Whether you’re just starting your coaching journey or you’re a veteran coach, these 𝟓 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 will increase your effectiveness as a coach.

- Who will be coaching the team? (and then speak to others who have played for said coach - requires some extra leg work but is worth it) - What kind of support, if any, do the coaches receive? (training, mentoring, accountability etc)

- What is the team’s philosophy on winning? And how will this affect how playing time is awarded? - How many players will be kept on the team? - What is the expected practice to game ratio? (depends on age of players but should be 2:1 at the very least)

- How many out of town tournaments are planned? - (If playing recreational/house league) Will the club be offering a “Selects” team (essentially an all-star team from the pool of recreational players)?

If you don’t get clear answers to all (or most) of those questions then it would be a red flag for me. Finding the right fit for your child is so much more important for their development and enjoyment than being on the “best” team.

CO 2026 6’4 SG Craig Storah of ONL-X Basketball has a sweet stroke. Craig is a gifted rebounder and can finish at the rim in a variety of ways. Craig had 12 pts, and was perfect from the free throw line in a 52-44 win over CSJV

2027 6’1 SG Liam Kelk is a high motor guard that is always in attack mode. This prospect has quick reads and isn’t afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the court. Liam had 19 pts in a 80-54 win.

2027 6’1 SG Liam Kelk of ONL-X Basketball impressed with his effort on defence and his high basketball IQ. This prospect is always one step ahead and is always hustling no matter what. He finished with 13 pts in a 52 to 35 win.

2027 5’11 PG Trey Greger of ONL-X Basketball was lighting it up from three today. This prospect put on a clinic of elite shooting as he hit seven threes. He finished with 29 pts in a 77 to 53 win.

Kanata Ontario’s Darius DeAveiro put up 20 Points, 4 Rebounds, 7 Assists, 2 Steals and hit 4 Three’s for Valpo Basketball in a tough matchup with Missouri St. last night.

Had the pleasure of watching Yahya Abdisamed play at the recent NPH games. A dynamic guard on the rise who went head to head with Taj Duke in ONL-X’s game against Cali Prep. Yahya’s playmaking and shooting ability make him stand out in his class of 6’4 -6’6 point guard.
