Following news of a #GeneralElection in July, it's important to highlight the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, which is one of the most significant public health interventions in living memory. Smoking causes around 150 cases of cancer every day and places huge pressure on NHS. All

Sadly Tobacco & Vapes Bill hadnโ€™t made sufficient progress through parliament to be included in wash up The Bill has cross party support & action on tobacco is popular All political parties should make a #smokefreegeneration a key commitment in their #generalelection manifesto

Very sad to hear that @JosTrust is closing. Joโ€™s have done amazing work in the cervical cancer space - from advocating for policy action on HPV vaccination and screening, to giving support to people affected by cervical cancer - and much more. Thoughts to all involved.

As smoking is the biggest cause of cancer, it's disappointing the Tobacco & Vapes Bill won't be passed before the #GeneralElection. Parties must commit to raising the age of sale of tobacco in their manifestos to help create a #SmokefreeGeneration. More ๐Ÿ‘‡news.cancerresearchuk.org/2024/05/24/genโ€ฆ

With 350 young adults aged 18-25 taking up smoking every day in the UK, it's vital that all political parties commit to bringing back the Tobacco & Vapes Bill asap in the next parliament to create a #smokefreegeneration

Massive support for a smokefree generation in every GB constituency ranging from 55% to 74%. The tide has turned on tobacco. The next parliament must make it history. #smokefreegeneration

Professor Sir Mike Richards reminding us all of the real people behind these statistics: it's not the 62 day pathway that matters, it's the 61 nights in between #CRUKEDConference24

Tonightโ€™s #LeadersDebate grappling with NHS and social care. No mention of public health and prevention. A happier, healthier and more productive society needs a whole-gov approach to health and inequalities, including on tobacco, alcohol and junk food. health.org.uk/a-whole-governโ€ฆ

We are among the organisations that have signed an open letter to the new Government urging them to reintroduce the Tobacco and Vapes Bill in the first Kingโ€™s Speech on 17 July. This is a vital step towards a #SmokefreeUK and reducing the number of cancers caused by smoking ๐Ÿšญ

New figures from Cancer Research UK show that deaths caused by smoking are going up - with every day seeing 160 new cases of cancer caused by smoking. Cancer epidemiologist Karis Betts tells #R4Today we're seeing the effects of what smoking levels were like 10 or 15 years ago.

ICYMI: exciting to see the wider consideration of health in the National Planning Policy Framework consultation by Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Gov. We need to start thinking about health across all policies and government departments if we are to truly take a prevention-first approach.
