YALL I was wrong about Charlotte: "Lady Lucas began directly to calculate with more interest than the matter had ever excited before, how many years longer Mr. Bennet was likely to live..." (Ch. 22, p. 94 in Oxford Classics) My bad 🤦🏻‍♀️ #7922austen

So I’ve been listening to the audiobook, and I just realized that in the physical text, Mr. Collins actually speaks in semicolons. Ol‘ boy is out here spitting the Magna Carta like it’s his job. #7922austen

I just realized we never talked about the line where Mr. Darcy says that Jane is the only handsome girl in the room!! If anybody sees this, do y'all think he was lying? And if so, to Bingley or to himself as well? 👀 #7922austen

I have more things to say but I HAVE NEVER DISLIKED A CHARACTER MORE THAN MRS. NORRIS Also I think she would be an extreme couponer, which is unrelated, but something I want y'all to know. #7922austen

I'm very curious about Fanny's sense of shame (most apparent in chapter 3, but it develops as she gets older). Where does it come from? I'm also wondering about her constant desire to be useful. #7922austen

[SPOILER] I'mma say it. I don't see Edmund's appeal. He's boring, officious, AND he's not a good judge of character. He thinks he knows F so well but constantly misreads her reactions about Henry. If he weren't nice to F, she wouldn't be interested. Thoughts? #7922austen

Ch. 4: the anxiety surrounding Franny's preferred method of exercise has inspired my next short story title: Horse Politics. #7922austen

You've inspired me to bring back my list. Here's at least part of the reason why I dislike a lot of characters lol #7922austen

[Spoiler] Okay okay. I find the last chapter very unsatisfying. But maybe it's partly because I thought Mansfield Park had as many chapters as P&P. So when my audiobook got to ch. 48, it felt like JA said "lol BYE" #7922austen

I'm on volume 1, chapter 4, and I'm just *waiting* for someone to make a joke about Emma's age and her marriage eligibility. She's the same age as Lizzy Bennett (21), but that means her bones are merely 20 seconds from being dust instead of 10. #7922austen

{spoiler} #7922austen Vol 1, Ch 9: this is Emma's reaction when she thinks Elton's letter is for Harriet and not herself:

Why does Mr. Woodhouse act like he doesn't know how marriage works 💀 when he complains about Mrs. Weston being gone, he sounds like Mrs. Bertram complaining about Fanny leaving/never leaving after she'll be married. #7922austen

{SPOILER} V 1, Ch 16: I cannot believe the absolute SHADE Emma has for Elton. Good enough for Harriet, but not for her. I know this has a lot to do with class, but she really threw all her praise out the window. Smh #7922austen

I get to V. 2, Ch 1 and I can't help being like, 🗣️bring Jane Fairfax onstage and let me judge her for myself!! Bc this is what Austen does best. If I'm supposed to hate her, I prob will 😩🤣 #7922austen

I notice that JA likes to use this construction a lot: "such a _______.” v 2, ch 1: "there was always good reason for such an attention." (to the Bateses) I know it's an indicator, but also, it's a subtle way to get the reader on the narrator's side. 👀 #7922austen

V 2, Ch 8, Mrs. Weston on Jane and Mr. Knightley: "I'm not speaking of its prudence, merely it's probability." Emma's upset, but meanwhile Mr. Knightley is prob in the background like: #7922austen
