#DYK that one of Teddy Roosevelt’s greatest fears was Baseball? That’s right—the Rough Rider #Potus who held boxing matches at the White House & discovered a new river in the Amazon was scared of baseball. He just couldn’t stand the thought of a ball coming at his face at 100mph.

#DYK that most of Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech was improvised? By the seventh paragraph he had gone completely off script and was speaking from the heart, including when he said those legendary four words…#IHaveADream

Did you know Camp David, the #potus retreat in Maryland, is named after Dwight D. Eisenhower’s grandson? It used to be called Shangri-La, but Ike thought the name was too fancy and changed it in 1953. #history

#OTD in 1901 Theodore Roosevelt changes the name of the “Executive Mansion” to the White House. A year later First Lady Edith would start construction on what is now The West Wing, giving the president a separate area to do president stuff. #history

I hate my side profile, but I LOVE this wall of animals. Lincoln loved animals, too, especially cats 😻 He also had goats, rabbits, a dog, a horse, and even spared the life of the ceremonial turkey on Thanksgiving, granting it an “order of reprieve.” 👏

With the holidays upon us, it's a great time to buy gifts from independent bookstores. Here are a few recommendations for the people on your list. Even if your local store doesn't have them in stock, they can always order for you and will be so grateful for the business! 🧵👇
