The hero narrative is a really popular one but we see it frequently play into a toxic imposter syndrome and survivor guilt that haunts those who tried to help. Please please use it very lightly.

Congratulations to all newly qualified foundation doctors starting their medical careers today. I am not going to offer any advice as a lot has changed since I qualified as a doctor. But I hope everyone has a rewarding career and makes a difference to the lives of their patients.
