Yesterday, members of the House visited Sainte-Mère-Église & Utah Beach, in Normandy, France, as part of the NCSL Executive Leadership Development program. During the defense of Sainte-Mère-Église, Lt. Turner B. Turnbull, an Oklahoman, earned his Silver Star for gallantry.

Yesterday, members of the House visited Point du Hoc. The Ranger Monument there was erected by the French to honor elements of the American Second Ranger Battalion under the command of Lt. Col. James E. Rudder.

The final day of the NCSL Executive Leadership Conference ended with visiting Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery. It was an emotional day as we reflected on the ultimate sacrifice made by the troops who stormed the beaches of Normandy.
