All of the Bible is about Jesus Christ's redemption. The Old Testament shows our need for redemption. The New Testament shows the deed of redemption: the cross of Christ.

It is good for the soul to not only pray for things we think we need from God, but to remind our soul of our need for God.

Sometimes God gives a specific song as an anthem of our lives. What songs do you cling to and sing when you need to be reminded of God's truth?

The word dirge comes from the similar word dirige, which means "to direct" in Latin. Dirige appears in the Latin translation of Psalm 5:8 - used as lyrics for a liturgical chant of mourning often sung at funerals. This is how a hymn of mourning came to be known as a dirge.

Swing Low, Sweet Chariots is a spiritual that slaves sang in the American South. Inspired by God sending a chariot of fire to take Elijah to the heavens in II Kings 2, this song was both a prayer to God for rescue from slavery, and a reminder of hope of eternal life with God.

Did you know: the name Barabbas means son of the father? As in Simon BAR Jonah meaning son and abba, father. This makes the choice of the crowd all the more tragic to choose Barabbas “son of the father” over Jesus, the Father’s one and only son. More here:

How often do you read cross-references? They are easy to overlook all scrunched in tiny font to the middle or side of a Bible. But they can unlock connections to the beautiful design of the Bible. One of the best ways to understand the Bible is by reading the Bible.
