Are all Tories awful? Of course not. Never been my kinda folk, but you'll find good people in any tent. Until recently. These crack-Tories put power before country, and torpedoed our economy and our international standing. They blew a 4%+ hole in our GDP and sent navy gunboats /1

.to try to intimidate our French neighbours. These guys are not representative of British conservatism, but of something far darker. They brought the same short-sighted ideology of hyper-selfishness to public health, killing 170,000+ of us, and used schools as a political.. /2

dividing line to try to paint themselves as the champions of freedom (and legitimise their shocking, repeated, failures to act). Far from standing for conservatism, they have undermined and assaulted almost every institution, from the Royal Family to Parliament to the courts; /3

from the media to the civil service; they have even expressly threatened to break international law. This is not conservatism. Nor is it conservative, even if it is familiar in their ranks, to misdirect public funds on a gigantic scale to friends, family and donor businesses; /4

nor is it conservative to lie repeatedly and brazenly, to try retrospectively to change the rules to exonerate the misdeeds of guilty friends, or to insist on logically impossible claims about the law having been respected at events defined to be illegal. /5

None of this is conservatism. The decent Tories I have met - some even former donors and/or senior MPs - are utterly appalled by the dishonest rogues who have hijacked their party, and our country. /6

I've never supported the Tories, but that makes it easy to forget that THESE Tories - the Vote Leave cabal of millionaire deregulators and arch libertarianism - are not conservatives at all. They are a cancer in British politics, devoutly to be deplored, urgently to be excised. 7

If you are a Tory voter or member or, God-forbid, MP, believe me, we feel your pain - we have no choice in that - but please, now, walk away from these interlopers; distance yourself from their immorality and criminality; play your part in bringing Britain back from the brink. /e
