Overfishing continues to threaten 60% of demersal stocks in the western #Mediterranean. And 80% of them are below healthy biomass levels. We’re calling on France 🇫🇷, Italy 🇮🇹, and Spain 🇪🇸 to adopt sustainable fishing opportunities at #AGRIFISH.

Similarly to receiving the smallest share of fisheries funding, small-scale fishers are starved of quotas, landing just 6% of the catch. EU fishing nations must work with coastal communities to create fairer allocation criteria.🎣 #MakeFishingFair theguardian.com/environment/20…

Yesterday, EU Maritime & Fish launched a consultation in view of its evaluation of the #CommonFisheriesPolicy. Oceana stands firm: the CFP is the right tool to rebuild fish stocks, protect #biodiversity and support coastal communities. Watch our video 👇

“The small-scale fleet needs proper & fair quota allocation for its survival & coastal diversification.” – says Carmen Crespo. We agree – Member States must implement Art. 17 of the CFP & work with coastal communities to develop clear social, economic & environmental criteria.

Deliberately increasing the power of fishing boat engines is a widespread problem in Europe. The fishers of Palamós (Spain) took the decision to limit it to be more efficient, to guarantee fishing and to allow the regeneration of the ocean. This is how they did it ⤵️

Reopening the #CommonFisheriesPolicy would create unnecessary instability for EU fishers & coastal communities. We urge European Commission to focus on proper implementation of the CFP to support food security, jobs, & climate resilience. #EUOceanPact ➡️ europe.oceana.org/press-releases…

An investigation by Oceana in Europe & Sea Shepherd Italia found that 91% of bottom trawlers, stalls, & markets in 7 Italian locations sold undersized hake, violating EU rules. This threatens one of the Med’s most overfished species, & harm fishers playing by the rules. #SaveTheHake

📊 86% of French citizens want more fishing quotas for small-scale, low-impact fishers, a new YouGov poll shows. Expanding France’s pilot quota scheme would better align with EU law and public demand for fairness, transparency, and ocean-friendly practices. 🌊🐟

🆕We surveyed 47 Cypriot fishers, and their message is clear: fish stocks are declining, and EU rules enforcement remains weak. 📊96% say national action is not enough. As the EU evaluates the #CommonFisheriesPolicy in 2026, their voices must be heard. ➡️europe.oceana.org/reports/eu-com…

Today we took our message straight to the EU quarter on two wheels. 🚴 As the #EUBlueEnergyTransition in fisheries & aquaculture conference took place, our banners called for keeping the #CommonFisheriesPolicy strong and not reopening it under the pretext of “energy transition”.
