This week is the time to get Oadby and Wigston out of local lockdown

Despite loads of testing, Oadby and Wigston now has a substantially lower rate of cases than a number of other places where the infection is bad, and the City is down too.

Good news - after a lot of campaigning by me, the government will provide extra business support to Oadby & Wigston businesses affected by local lockdown. It's in addition to the national grants scheme, the furlough scheme and the County Council's own business support scheme.

Folks, I don’t want to annoy you but... there are to be further discussions (not in Leicester) that won’t start til 6pm... how long they’ll take is anyone’s guess. But certainly nothing before 6 now...we’re told...

Sounds like we are going to get a decision on #Leicesterlockdown TONIGHT. Been told there is an issue unrelated to Leicester that the Government's had its eye on which has held things up.....

Hurray!!! After much pushing and shoving I have just had it confirmed by the Department of Health that Oadby and Wigston is moving OUT of lockdown and will be the same as the rest of Leicestershire.

I have double checked with the Department for Health about timings and all restrictions in Oadby and Wigston ended at midnight last night. Obviously cafes etc will need some time to get ready to reopen so please be understanding if not open till next week - but free to open now.

Just checked. With immediate effect, the restriction limiting travel to essential journeys only has been lifted - within Leicester AND in and out of the city. And no, it has not been well communicated by the Government

Good: Oadby & Wigston is out of lockdown from midnight tonight. Apols: this morning I was told it was done last night. But officials then wanted more time to draft the law over weekend. I pushed for sooner & DH have now sped things up so it ends tonight: gov.uk/guidance/leice…
