Happy New Year! I hope everyone’s having a good start to 2025 ✨ I know I am, this absolutely stunning denarius of Didius Julianus has made it’s way across my desk and into our February auction!

I absolutely adore Roman coins, particularly Republican and Imperatorial. Of them all, this is my favourite. A Denarius from Titus Carisius c. 46BC. Juno Moneta on the obverse and coining implements on the reverse. A perfect little image of how money was made, on money itself ✨

Coming up next month we have a lovely hoard of 50 Antoniniani, found in Sapcote, and it includes a new type! Previously unknown, a coin minted in the name of Diocletian, bust radiate and cuirassed, is now allocated RIC V.5 (forthcoming) 3539var. I love finding these!

I had a wonderful weekend packed full of coins! My friend and I went to the British Museum, sadly much was closed, but we got a peak at (some of) the Chew Valley Hoard! And then went to the pub where we saw some wonderful pictures on the walls

We had a great day at the London Coin Show! Promptly followed by a flying visit to finally see the Silk Roads exhibit at the BM. A truly fascinating part of history that I’ve been interested in for many years, but of course my favourite part is the coins!
