The best minds in mental health aren't the docs. They're the trauma survivors who have had to figure out how to stay alive for years with virtually no help. Wanna learn how to psychologically survive under unfathomable stress? Talk to abuse survivors.

A sign of wisdom is thinking in probabilities rather than certainties. Naïve people are arrogant. They claim to know what will definitely happen, and believe they're always right. Wise people are humble. They explore what might happen, and admit they're often wrong.

In romantic relationships, when we are hurting it’s usually a younger version of ourselves who felt threatened and afraid. This is why, when we react, it’s not actually to our partner, but to the primary attachment figure as an embodied memory. Dr. Jen Wolkin | ADHD + Trauma Therapist

ADHDers often struggle with the executive function skill of Cognitive Flexibility. This means it’s harder to go from task to task seamlessly. This might be why you have to sit in your car for a while before you go into your house. It takes time to transition. -Dr. Jen

Being in a bad mood is not a license to be unkind. Being sensitive is not an excuse for being abusive. Respect is a social responsibility. Treating it as optional reveals a lack of concern for others. A mark of character is maintaining civility when things don’t go your way.

PTSD is what I call a "linking disorder." Its ability to cause pain is due to the fact that it links current stressors & triggers to past trauma in ways that make it impossible for our nervous system to not respond. Un-linking that sh*t requires patience, strength, & skill.

During a study at Harvard in the 1950s, Dr. Curt Richter placed rats in a pool of water to test how long they could tread water. On average they'd give up and sink after 15 minutes. But right before they gave up due to exhaustion, the researchers would pluck them out, dry them

“Ultimately, the strength of a relationship lies not only in its ability to weather external challenges but also in how partners choose to turn toward each other in these vulnerable moments.” Here’s what that means for you. psychologytoday.com/us/blog/social…

The attitude that helps most with intense stress is not mindfulness. It’s hope. In hard times, it’s overwhelming to live only in the present. What brings strength is anticipating a brighter future. Resilience lies in remembering that today's burdens may be lighter tomorrow.
