Last month, the Texas Facilities Commission acquired a land easement from Faith Ranch to build 5 miles of wall through its land in a remote corner of Webb County. The ranch is owned by Stuart Stedmen, an Abbott appointed UT System regent who's given the guv's campaign >$1m.

The deal comes in wake of the state awarding 2 construction contracts (worth $350m) to build 16 miles of wall in Laredo region. That has sparked fierce resistance from local activists w/ #NoBorderWall Coalition, which is organizing landowners against the state plans.

“They sure keep it all in the family, don’t they?” says leader of no wall coalition. “It’s incredibly disappointing that a landowner [who lives in Houston] is going to allow the governor, for purely political reasons" to bring the wall to Webb--& harm the river, land, neighbors.
