Great thread of my co-author Andreas R. Kostol who summarizes the questions we address in a forthcoming paper in the Journal of Econometrics (joint with Ingrid Huitfeldt and Andrea Weber). We propose a method to infer the hierarchy structure of firms based on administrative data.
