85 years ago today, the bombing of Guernica. It roused the world, but yielded little concrete response from world powers. Mariupol is our Guernica, with deaths already ten to twenty times greater. Years later, how will we remember it? And our inaction, will we remember it too?

And just like that, not one, but two institutions meant to safeguard individual rights and freedoms have shown themselves anything but. First the UN, now the Supreme Court. Both incapable, and abetting a politics of cruelty and oppression that will have effects for generations.

14 children and a teacher, hardly a week after Buffalo. Two mass shootings. How we've accepted this much suffering as normative in this country, for so long, is beyond me. A violence we have every opportunity to prevent, and we choose not to. If not now, when?
