Here's a pleasant birthday surprise: Longreads listed the essay I recently published (my very first!) as part of their Top Five of the week! Thanks to @kristastevens.bsky.social for the write-up, and of course, @Kjyale at Orion Magazine for editing this piece. longreads.com/2022/03/11/the…

Well, tomorrow I officially go off the grid for a ten-day, finish-yr-damn-poems retreat, but before I hit the road, this neighbor of mine decided to give me a little sendoff.

Ever try to back out your car when a horse isn’t quite ready to say goodbye? Well, I always thought it hard to leave when one of my dogs gave me the eyes, but Bud here is a sad-eyed pup weighing in a good 900 pounds more. Mercy. I about never got home from Shaman Hill tonight!

Thank you, @longleafwriters, for such a beautiful week and for gifting me with the best workshop/ coven/ community of brilliant poets I could imagine, one willing to explore the shadow and the light and all the tiny waystations in between.

Insects that live in the water were my introduction to the wonders of invertebrates around the world. Mayflies are especially lovely, and they’re also indicators of the health of the water in which they live. washingtonpost.com/magazine/2022/…

So grateful for such a nourishing, loving, and inspiring retreat with BlackEarthInstitute this past week. I'm so filled with awe by these amazing scholars, artists, and activists doing such incredible justice and environmental-based work. My heart is hopeful.
