Just a grimy #MidWeekPeak unobtrusively going about its daily business, attracting no attention from the spotters. 45068 pauses at Birmingham New Street on Monday 23rd August 1982 with a Leeds - Plymouth relief train.
On the 26th April 2024, 917 years worth of experience (32people) leave my department of Carbodies (welding) at Alstom Derby. This is due to the UK not having a long term rail strategy which has left us without any workload. #alstomderby Alstom UK & Ireland Louise Haigh Mark Harper
Just your average Saturday evening at Birmingham New St, 17th April 1982:
50003 (just arrived on 1M15, 1550 ex-Paddington)
47553 (don't know what it was working and who cares anyway π)
46047 (1V96 1344 Newcastle - Swansea)

50007 before its GWR 150 repaint - seen here calling at Banbury on Saturday 17th April 1982 with 1V48, the 1438 Birmingham NS - Paddington, while one of Marylebone's faithful Class 115s awaits passengers for the Chiltern line.

The Guard of 1M07, 1350 Paddington - Liverpool Lime Street, gives the driver of 50009 the 'right away' from Banbury on Saturday 17th April 1982. And there was some lesser traction lurking in the sidings.π

Looking resplendent in its very recently applied large logo blue livery, 50009 arrives at Oxford on Saturday 17th April 1982 with what is about to become a well-loaded 1M07, 1350 Paddington - Liverpool Lime Street.
It's #MidWeekPeak day and this week's find in the loft is 46044 in the customary slightly over-fuelled state at Birmingham New St on 11/9/1982, in charge of 1V85, the 1000 Bradford Exchange - Paignton. Such an everyday sight it attracted hardly attention from the spotters.
More dodgy old Ektachrome from the loft archive - 20041 & 141 waiting time at Nottingham on Saturday 14th August 1982 with 1E85, the 0922 Derby - Skegness. I can still hear them from here.

Here it is... Richard Bowker CBE's interview with Alstom UK & Ireland MD Nick Crossfield. A story of government and civil service bureaucracy, procrastination, and world-class dithering. It's still possible to save Derby... but it's 1 minute to midnight. Watch now: youtu.be/aRLaioz1ZB8
