Immensely proud of our fight, no matter what. We & our allies in the legislature fought HARD. And New York’s tenants aren’t going anywhere. Real estate is going to keep coming for rent stabilization, but we’ll be back stronger than ever — to fix what they broke and more.

Listening to the oral arguments in #JohnsonVGrantsPass, here are some of the powerful statements against criminalizing homelessness: 🧵1/?

Gerri lived outside in Boise. She knows that her experience of homelessness does not make her a criminal. As Justice Sotomayor asked during the #JohnsonVGrantsPass hearing, where will the homeless population go if every city in the country lacks compassion? #HousingNotHandcuffs

NYC tenants: if you are covered by #GoodCause, it is now in effect: you can contest rent hikes, nonrenewals, and no-fault evictions. Your landlord may tell you it is not in effect until August — this is FALSE! Good Cause in effect, but notice requirements don’t start until Aug.

50 years ago today, New York's rent stabilization system was signed into law. For 50 years, the Emergency Tenant Protection Act has kept New Yorkers in their homes and neighborhoods. Now it’s time to strengthen & expand the ETPA -- to protect New Yorkers for the next 50 years.

Stabilized tenants I counsel are dismayed when they learn that the ballooning rent in the leases their landlord sent them over the last few years is not only legal but approved by Mayor Adams. Incomes are not keeping up. NYC needs a new Mayor that cares about renters!!

Criminalizing homelessness won’t solve the crisis. Keeping rents low + housing our homeless neighbors will. This SCOTUS decision is cruel. But our fight for homes for all continues.

Sell out New Yorkers to enrich landlords and billionaires, and your time will run out. This is just the start. Every real estate-bought politician has to go.
