I know I’m on a roll but it’s because my profession is constantly compromised by laws that don’t help. And these same laws that don’t help the profession, don’t help my students. And that’s irritating.

A building rep tells commission that teachers he speaks to with 5-10 years experience are at a breaking point and we're close to losing them, which would be tragic - causing entire room to applaud.

A special ed teacher with seven years of experience says he is only making $38,000 per year. Says he wants to feel like teaching matters to lawmakers.

A teacher tells the commission she drove four hours to be here today. Says her own school has lost good teachers due to moving across the state line to make $10,000 more per year.

Retired teacher tells the commission that teachers shouldn't have to take a vow of poverty to do this work. Reminds them to not forget retirement benefits for teachers. Need a cost of living adjustment.

Sen. Becker asks why would young people go into teaching when state hasn't fully funded schools and has continued to make unnecessary changes. Says lowering standards for teaching does nothing but dumb down our schools.

Special ed teacher says he doesn't know how he can plan his family's future. Doesn't know if he is a responsible father by continuing to teach.

Teacher tells commission that he cannot afford to pay $10,000 to get a master's degree so he can continue teaching dual credit. Says his kids qualify for free/reduced lunch. Tells commission, teachers shouldn't be paid so little as to qualify for free/reduced lunch.

At his news conference today, Gov. Holcomb has announced that Indiana will move forward with its current K-12 education budget and will not be making any cuts.

He’s right, because he is a part of it. This time, he didn’t lie.

Trump showing,once again, that he will do anything to stoke racial divisions. Vote him out.

If there was ever a time schs needed federal support, it is now. Students deserve an unprecedented federal investment in resources not cuts or diversion of funds. Schools deserve a federal champion to lift our leaders, support our teachers & believe in the safety of our kids.

Two weeks because he’s going to force schools to go back when it’s not safe.
