A genuine early C16 in situ and apparently undamaged Marian statue in a Lady Chapel is a rarity in parish churches these days. Here Mary is seen receiving rays from three figures representing the Trinity. Barnack St John the Baptist.

The only "inaccuracy" in the confected row about the BBC's Gaza film is the continuing lie that the young narrator is "the son of an official in the militant group Hamas". No, he's the son of a scientist who directed agricultural policy in Gaza's government, which is run by

That's because you're a *podcaster*, Ben, so you don't know what a normal job is like. To be fair, I'm blessed enough that I hope I never have to retire and get to do what I'm doing until the day I die. But, that's not true for a sheet metal worker, a warehouse worker, etc.

July 20th, this Sunday, marks one year since we lost Gus. I haven't even known how to begin processing that. This year feels like it has gone by faster than any year of my life. Hard moments. Difficult ones. So many thoughts... Chiefly, God has been gracious to us. Ps. 121:1-2.

#OnThisDay 59 years ago BR abandoned its 'colour bar' - preventing black workers from occupying customer-facing roles at London railway stations - thanks to the campaigning of Asquith Xavier. Asquith pictured here in the role he fought for; Guard at Euston buff.ly/Riixw15

Jonathan Mills I find the lads who think they're in the Tour de France very dangerous. Weaving in and out of the bike lane to overtake other cyclists thinking that it's ok to change lanes as if bikes have a universal right of way. Very rare to see any cyclist stop until a red light turns green.

I feel sorry for anyone under 25 on this site. They're relentlessly bombarded with pretty dumb advice from middle aged people on an hourly basis.

And Andrea Grillo and Michael Martin's heads explode in unison. (Francis did this at least once early on as well, for what its worth, but the ideologues will still hate it).

In ad orientem celebration of the Mass the priest does not "turn his back on the people". He faces in the same direction as the people in order to lead them in the offering of the divine sacrifice of the Mass

The same happened when I was dropped by the BBC. Not a word of explanation or enlightenment. Seems the BBC cruelly drop people sometimes. 👇

Fr. Dwight Longenecker I almost never do - but when it happens it feels really odd saying “Lord you are holy indeed” whilst gazing at Mavis on the front row. Far more dignified, reverent and rational is to face the people when addressing them- the lord be with you- and God when addressing him!

Montesquieu argued that republics are defined by virtue, despotisms by fear, constitutional monarchies by honour. I've never seen a ministry so indifferent to its reputation in the face of history, so regardless of its sense of honour. How are we to define this comprador regime?

Two minutes with a King who has no idea who you are and asks if you've come far. Imagine staking an entire political career and philosophy around that - but for many MPs, that really is all it's all about. Do, say, vote for whatever nonsense gets you that gong.

There seems to be a widespread understanding amongst Catholics that Mass is a re-enactment of the Last Supper. This is not the primary meaning of the Mass. Every Mass is a re-presentation of Christ's once for all sacrifice of himself on Calvary. The Last Supper is properly
