I am so happy to say that I have started my first teaching experience as a doctoral tutor at University of Sussex. The first week has been a mnemonic journey: the students reminded me of myself when I was an undergraduate at Damascus University.

Dr Azzam Al Kassir 2024 paper in British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies examines the theory of Radical Flank Effects through al-Nusra Front's shift between 'moderation' & 'radicalism' (2012-2017). He argues that moderation can be a strategic tool for militant groups.

This is one of the darkest days of my life as I witness ongoing #massacres in #Syria for the third consecutive day. The violence began when ex-regime loyalists ambushed security forces, resulting in heavy casualties. The situation quickly escalated, leading to widespread killings

A small moment that meant a lot — I’ve been nominated for the 2025 Sussex Awards under the Community Impact, Scholarship, and Social Responsibility category for teaching on the Anthropology of Worlds and Selves module. Thank you to the students who took the time to nominate me

#Syria ’s reality is starkly divided. In some areas people are finally free to speak about the Assad regime’s atrocities & begin healing. Yet in other places, civilians face daily violence 2 Alawite men were killed today collecting daphne leaves The path to peace remains fragile.
