A key to regulating emotions is to treat them like visitors in your home. "I'm angry" lets a feeling take permanent residence. "I'm hosting some anger today" is a reminder that not all guests are welcome. Emotions may drop in unannounced, but we decide which ones get to stay.

Are your students, and the teachers in your school, able to feel psychologically safe in the space which you create for them? Dr. Jo Kim asks. A great checklist! EARCOS #deij #belonging #wellbeing #mentalhealth

Taking a different approach to introducing #Zonesofregulation through focusing on body signals. Students came up with ways to categorise how their body feels.

Knowledge is power for children managing big emotions. Understanding how their brain works and the connection between thinking and feeling is such valuable learning.

Picture books are a powerful tool to develop social and emotional skills. A successful lesson working with a class to develop problem solving strategies after reading The Recess Queen. What would we do if Mean Jean was in our playground?! #positiveeducation #socialskills

Crucial conversations about Consent, Respect and Body Safety in Lower Primary. With open minded, honest conversations came an important message of speaking up.

The older (or wiser) I get the more I enjoy deliberately doing hard things and really having to focus in order to be successful. From ultramarathons to now studying Neuroscience, it’s all hard and it’s all good!

The Circle of Control has been very effective to introduce to 6 and 7 year olds who have been finding it hard to lose well and to accept things can’t always go their way in card games!

Principles for change: Know your why. Start small. Motivation follows action. Community makes everything easier. Stay consistent. Expect acute failures, and be ready to bounce back. Build flexibility into your plan. Focus on progress not perfection.
