Happy #LaborDay! The 1st Labor Day took place in NYC on 9/5/1882 when 10,000 workers took unpaid leave & marched to show the strength of trade & labor orgs. According to U.S. Department of Labor, President Cleveland signed a law in 1894 making the 1st Monday in Sept. each year a national holiday.

This is one way that pancakes were made in the 18th century. 🥞⁣ ⁣ 18th-century pancakes were more like crepes than American-style pancakes. The recipe used here for paper pancakes came from Hannah Glasse's The Art of Cookery Made Plain and Easy.

Sixteen of the delegates who attended the opening meeting of the First Continental Congress #OTD in 1774 returned as members of the Second Continental Congress and later signed the Declaration of Independence. Their names can be found on Signer’s Island in Constitution Gardens.
