The total phase of tonight's total lunar eclipse has now begun. The Moon should have a dark reddish tint by now. Totality will last for 1 hour and 5 minutes. Enjoy!

New 2026 total solar eclipse travel posters have dropped! Who can name at least one of the buildings in these designs? Hint: One of them is very hard to spell. nationaleclipse.com/store

While we were seeing a lunar eclipse from Earth, a solar eclipse was occurring on the Moon. Here it is, courtesy of Firefly Aerospace. It kind of looks like an annular eclipse, but that's not the edge of the Sun. It's a circle of sunlight refracting through Earth's atmosphere.

So, apparently the new trendy way to refer to a partial solar eclipse at sunrise is as a "double sunrise." We won't be using that terminology.

Tomorrow's partial solar eclipse reminds us of all the total solar eclipses that might have been—if the Moon's alignment or distance was just a bit more perfect. It's like missing the lottery by one number.

Did you catch the partial solar eclipse this morning? A partial solar eclipse is only about 1 million times less impressive than a total solar eclipse. For real. Just ask anyone who has seen a total. The next total solar eclipse in on August 12, 2026. NationalEclipse.com

Today's eclipse anniversary is a good time to remember that there are three more total solar eclipses on the way! But you might have to do some travelling this time to see totality. We have more details, especially about 2026, at NationalEclipse.com

This needs to be called out. Oceania Cruises recently announced four new 2026 "eclipse" cruises positioned "in the path of more than 90 percent totality." There's no such thing as 90 percent "totality." Passengers will see a *partial* solar eclipse only on these four cruises.

The U.K. is spending £50 million on experiments to dim the Sun by injecting aerosols into the atmosphere and other methods. Don't they know there's already a natural process for dimming the Sun?

Unfortunately, a massive power outage occurred today in Spain. An even bigger power outage will occur in Spain next year on August 12. But that one will only last a couple of minutes and be a lot more fun.
