Thousands of small charities are now on the brink, having to cut services or close shop, which would leave millions in need (particularly in disadvantaged communities) Small Charity Week

If reports are true that Thames Water (the UK's largest water company) is likely to enter bankruptcy, it doesn't bode well for Ofwat's record on financial resilience. Read more about Ofwat in our explainer: instituteforgovernment.org.uk/explainer/ofwa…

Really excited to be going to this. Hoping the discussion includes how to structure, empower and hold accountable any new regulator - a tricky task given that fine balance between safeguarding public and stymieing growth in such new area.

Great reporting from the Financial Times on the possible Thames Water collapse. Ofwat has a statutory duty to ensure the financial resilience of water companies - these numbers do not look good on this front.

Interesting point about plans for OfS to limit student numbers on bad courses: 1) Problem is small 2) OfS has extensive powers anyway But also: 3) Potentially not a positive move for a regulator suspected by many in sector of being overly close to gov and increasingly empowered

Excellent! I have walked past this terribly underused development regularly for the last 24 years. It is close to 4 stations, on good bus routes and close to other tall buildings. This is right where new homes should be and finally might give me a shot of living in my local area.

🚨New explainer out on the Office for Students 🚨 How does it work? How does it link to student fees? Why is it in the news so much recently? Give it a read! instituteforgovernment.org.uk/explainer/offi…

Really interesting series out from Institute for Government today. Being a minister is an incredibly difficult and impactful job, yet there is no real training or prep. How do new ministers cope?
