Great research on open-source by Harvard University: - $4.15B invested in open-source generates $8.8T of value for companies (aka $1 invested in open-source = $2,000 of value created) - Companies would need to spend 3.5 times more on software than they currently do if OSS did not exist I

This Thursday Bowen Jin will present his research on how to train LLMs (R1) to generate search queries to use search engines more effectively using reinforcement learning in our paper talks event series. Online Event: lu.ma/j8g0wnit Paper: arxiv.org/abs/2503.09516

Size bias jina.ai/news/on-the-si… refers to how the length of text inputs affects similarity, regardless of semantic relevance. It explains why search systems sometimes return long, barely-relevant documents instead of shorter, more precise matches to your query.

on my way back to NYC, i met wise Leon Bottou in the airport. we talked. then i told him "you should tweet that!" and, he delivered much more than a tweet: a blog post with thoughts and insights on AI research only he can deliver this clearly and succinctly.

Had some fun running experiments with jina-reranker-m0 on the multimodal retrieval task! 🔬 This is key for searching through documents that mix text & images. Really happy to see a boost in Recall@10! 🔥 Still tons of room for improvement, but it's a super exciting direction!

Quantization can act as a regularizer, preventing the model from overfitting to the training data. By forcing the model to operate with lower precision, QAT can improve generalization performance and robustness. In jina.ai/news/quantizat… we show QAT models sometimes

I just integrated jina-embeddings-v4 with vLLM, and throughput doubled compared to inference via transformers (tested on Flickr data, 2k text/images). Instructions on the model page: huggingface.co/jinaai/jina-em…
