While shopping for groceries I passed by a young couple who were kissing in the aisle and I thought to myself they must love each other. Β  And a few aisles over I passed another young couple who were both masked and I thought to myself oh, they must really love each other

One of the big divides in the ME community we don't talk about that much is who still sees medical professionals and who doesn't (whether because of severity, financial or logistical issues, brutal choices between surviving & seeking medical care, or other stuff). It comes up in

Phased returns at work can be useful and helpful when managed appropriately. But why should it only be AFTER someone has been too unwell to work? Why can't more employers use the same principles to prevent people getting to that stage?

I think many in the long covid community still believe Dr. House (or some scientist version of him) will eventually come to save them. I wish I could plug them into my brain and show them the reality that most doctors are more like Zoidberg and that we know so little about the

Ableism concludes that disabled people are a burden. Ableism devalues the lives of disabled people. Ableism posits that disabled lives are not worth living. Disabled people are not a burden. Ableism, bias, discrimination, and bigotry against disabled people are the burden.

People act like being disabled means you spend all day chilling. Many of us are trying to hold ourselves together with tape & glue. We work hard to hang onto our baseline & exist in a world not meant for us. It’s the opposite of chill & relaxing. We are fighting for survival.

The basis of equity is you must be inclusive of all- even if it is a minority. Judging people you don't know and assuming that just because most maybe could walk, that this person is "lazy" is ableist. Generalisations without nuance are ableist.

So true. Covid could've been a huge change in how we support those with chronic illnesses. Instead it's sadly created this "Suffering Olympics" where *some* with LC seem to think they're the only chronically ill people who exist, whilst the rest of us have been there for years.

September is so lovely. The humidity is gone. The temps are cool but not cold. As long as hurricanes and their damned low pressure stay away, it’s one of my best months. I hold on as long as I can before the cold weather sets in and takes me down until spring. #MECFS

I hate this whole "women can be sexy at fifty!” narrative. At what age will society stop demanding I try to be sexy for everybody and just let me turn into an old swamp witch, as nature intended?

The #covidinquiry was back up and running this week and quickly into what some people think is one of the biggest scientific or policy mistakes (or 'misunderstandings' depending on your POV) of the whole pandemic. And it's all to do with how Covid is spread in the first place. 🧡

Shout out to all the unpaid caregivers out there - parents, adult children, siblings, spouses, friends, neighbours etc etc. You make our lives a little (or a LOT!) easier. And for that, we thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. #Disabled

When you become disabled - everyone will start suggesting fixes to you. People can’t comprehend the chronic nature of chronic illness. Trying to accept that your life is forever changed is made harder by those constantly suggesting a magic cure will get you β€œback to before”.

The whole nocebo thing is a physician coping mechanism. Patient blaming done to preserve their own egos because they are unable to help or because the β€œhelp” they try to provide actually hurts people and that is rough to accept. It would make me sad for them if they weren’t

Here’s the reality as a disabled person… My essential outgoings (mortgage, bills, food): Β£2,000 per month. When I was working, this was easily manageable and I was fortunate enough to earn enough to pay this, save some money, and have enough to pay for extra things… 🧡

Do you think I want this? You think I’d choose this? The absolute best-case scenario is only just being able to survive… worst-case is I’ll lose everything I worked hard for. So before you judge disabled folk… please understand the reality we have to face… 🧡

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I genuinely think that if you properly clean the air in schools and hospitals, you have a good chance of shutting down covid transmission enough to tip the balance into stopping it altogether. Public transport, prisons, shelters,

When you tell people to β€œjust stay home” from the hospital or they have no right to request a HCW mask… you sound ridiculous. We are sick & vulnerable. We didn’t choose this. How dare we try and avoid a deadly & disabling virus while also fighting for our lives! /s
