This is a very, very important day for South Africa and the future of the GNU. The DA warned clearly it would not support VAT increases because they hurt the poor. We stood our ground, and won. The ANC just learnt an essential lesson in coalition government. A great day!

So we told DA is anti poor but but they did not budge on the 2% VAT increase by the ANC. This is huge. This is unprecedented . You can't loot,loot, and loot, increase social grants, obviously money will run out and VAT would have to increase. Money has to come from somwhere.

The most striking thing about this clip is that the Finance Minister doesn’t mention growth. Just talks about how to fund “priorities”. The answer is: we don’t. We grow the economy and revenues will flow from that. It’s grow or die.
