Great thread. Most common mistakes I see; not including US donations at all, including them in input but failing to state US source income amount (credit doesn’t come through) & forgetting to convert them to CAD funds! Donations add up. Don’t leave money on the table.

How about Celine Dion come back to Canada and sing the national anthem at the Rogers Centre for the World Series tomorrow or Saturday!? Imagine how emotional that would be with all of Canada watching! Make it happen Rogers…just sayin🤞

Great article on the tax implications of reselling event tickets for a profit. This is what the CRA wants to know about those Blue Jay tickets that were resold. ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/reselling…

Reposting this - regardless of the give away - because sharing financial education is extremely important! Especially for younger people.

The biggest expense for the average Canadian family isn’t the home they live in, the food they eat or the clothes they buy.  It’s the taxes they pay to all levels of government. We need to cut the size of government. We need serious tax cuts. torontosun.com/opinion/column…

I attended a great session today with CPA Ontario on tax reform in Canada. It’s insane that > 50% of gov funding comes from personal income tax. Canada is at the top of tax rates worldwide & driving away good talent. Tax reform is needed & long overdue. cpaontario.ca/insights/thoug…

Thanks for an informative & much needed discussion today on tax reform with CPA ON jamie golombek. Tax reform is needed and long overdue. As a cross-border specialist I see it often, many departures the past 2-3yrs. Canada is losing talent.

I would add stopping contributions when departing Canada to your TFSA. And in many instances, for example if you are moving to the U.S., it might make sense to rebalance it or completely close it. Financial Post financialpost.com/personal-finan… via @

Not my post, it’s another brilliant CPA I follow online. A common problem in this industry! “Lead: I have a quick question re a tax matter.. Me: Thanks for thinking of me, here's my calendly link and payment link for prepaid consult for 1 hour. Lead: Really? Me: Yeah, really.”

Recent T1135 penalties case. Was this a DIY attempt at form T1135? VDP? This hurts but it’s no where close to the penalties I’ve seen imposed on the U.S. version of this which start at $10k USD. financialpost.com/personal-finan…

The CRA just paid out another bogus $5 million tax refund. A woman claimed she made $9,999,999 in foreign income. No verification. They just processed it and paid her. This is now a PATTERN: $40 million: paid to a fraudster. No verification. $37 million: paid to tax scammers.
