I need to write this up, especially the first 6 parts -- which is all you really need to productively use Relay. The difficulty of using Relay is grossly exaggerated.

Holy crap it works!

100% client-side GraphQL.

gql.tada for intellisense/types
urql for hooks/caching
resolvers fetch from Thrift RPC

So long redux and react query ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

You probably don't need GraphQL

You might be surprised to read that from the co-founder of a GraphQL company.

Let me explain.

Recently I ran a poll: REST or GraphQL for APIs?
Surprisingly, 92% chose REST.

So I came across Max Stoiber's blog, 'Why You Probably Don't Need GraphQL.' Worth reading if you're unsure what to choose.

Great read! Speaking from someone who has built and used GraphQL in different ways in the last nearly a decade.

In my experience, the more api consumers you have with varied use cases more are the chances you will need something like GraphQL

As of today, it's probably easier to consume AWS resources from Fly.io than AWS infrastructure

Customers are LOVING On-call โค๏ธ

But it's not just the product itself. It's the quick delivery of feature requests and close collaboration with the team that have also earned high praise from companies like Intercom ๐Ÿค

We've published 'Why GraphQL' - an internal slide deck used at Yelp to promote the usage of GraphQL among our engineering teams. Screenshot is one of my favourite wins.

Check it out!

Dax I think the biggest challenge is the DB and cold starts. We have projects deploying Vendure to Google Cloud Run but even that adds complexity.

What does work very well is a regular long-running node instance + edge caching with CF & Stellate โšก๏ธ.

Earlier this year, we announced our SOC 2 Type 1 certification. Now we're excited to announce we've achieved our Type 2 certification.

What's the difference? ๐Ÿค”
