The Old Oak by Ken Loach is a highly effective anti-racist film. It brilliantly contextualises anti-refugee sentiment within the context of systematic decline in the North East, while also showing solidarity as equally part of our region’s history.

I've just watched Ken Loach's "The Old Oak". It's a wonderful film, an affecting film, with towering performances by the two main leads. If this turns out to be Ken's last film, it's a brilliant one. His compassion for the oppressed, whatever their background, shines through.
